When you arrive at our sanctuary, ushers will greet you and provide a bulletin that outlines the order of the worship service. Much of this information, including hymns and unison prayers, is also displayed on large screens at the front of the sanctuary.
The first half of the service includes a welcome message from the pastor and announcements from the congregation, followed by prayer, singing, a call to worship (focusing on the congregation and on what we have come to do), a prayer of confession, the assurance of pardon (God’s love and grace to us), and a short sermon for the younger children. Younger children can remain in the sanctuary or follow an escort to the nursery.
The second half of the worship service includes the scripture readings (from both the Old and New Testaments), an anthem by the choir, a sermon, prayers of the people, the Lord’s prayer (we say “debts” and “debtors” instead of “trespasses” and “trespass”), affirmation of faith, offering, and a charge and benediction.
We normally have traditional church worship music (piano and organ) with occasional handbells, guitar, and other instruments featuring musical talents of church members or visitors. We sing both traditional hymns and more recent Christian songs.
